
Nyoman Triyana Usadhi | dancer (Sampih)
Nyoman Triyana Usadhi was born at Boston April 11, 1996. Living with his parents Nyoman Catra and Desak Made Suarti Laksmi, he grew up in Worcestor, Massachusetts where he attended school through third grade. He began dancing at the age of 6, and at a very young age performed publicly with several gamelans in the U.S., including with Gamelan Galak Tika at MIT and for the Mayor of New York City with the Indonesian Consulate Gamelan. Upon his return to Bali, he became a primary dancer for the children's gong kebyar competition. Most recently, Nyoman has been studying the penasar buduh character, a coarse clown, antagonist of the Arja, a Balinese vocal dance drama. His role as the lead Balinese character Sampih in Evan Ziporyn's A House in Bali will be Nyoman's first major role in a western opera.
